Paper Thin

Tacoma, WA // Been feeling as grey as a regular day in the Northwest. White spring flowers means that sunshine is just around the corner. I hope.

Typespotting: A Street Art Proposal

“Will you marry me?” in graffiti over the 10 freeway, Los Angeles

The two main men in my life were fawning over that awesome Bar 107 photo booth proposal from last year, not so much because it was at one of their favorite downtown bars, but more so because it ended up on two of their favorite websites. This one is just as awesome in my opinion. We spotted it driving east from the Westside on the 10 freeway last November, and as I was downloading all my Blackberry phone pics, I realized I never posted it. Would not say no to that.

Colorista

West Los Angeles, CA // Playing colorista for a Levi’s store promo our studio did last year while still in L.A. and are now barely editing. Sun-soaked and finely faded, just like a good pair of 501s.

Back in the day: Banksy’s Barely Legal, 2006

I was just watching a recent MTV interview with Robert Pattinson (shut up) when he mentioned that his beloved co-star, Tai in “Water for Elephants“, was the same elephant at Banksy’s Barely Legal show in Los Angeles a few years back. I was one of many who waited in line for hours, in east L.A., in the hot, HOT heat, to see this show. Summer of 2006, remember that? When temps were at 120 easy. Don’t agree with painting the poor animal, but she was luckily paint-free at the time of my visit.

Wow, was this already almost 5 years ago?? Time is flying away.

Seattle, WA // Happy birthday to a beautiful boy. I got him the Nixon Private watch that I thought would be perfect. Lots of rainy, gloomy days like today are in our future, but life will always have a bright spot as long as he’s around.

Carmen Chan

My goal for 2011 was to find inspiration daily: for myself, for my work, for everything else I do. I think I’ve been doing a good job of that so far. (See variations of such attempts on Tumblr, Pinterest, and the new blog.)

Another goal I had was to still post about things that I’ve managed to fall in love with while I am living outside of Los Angeles. A long-distance guide to living, loving, making and shopping in L.A., if you will. I am only remembering this now, here in oppressively gray Washington, while I am looking at the softly sun-bleached downtown L.A. goodness in the photographs of Carmen Chan. Shot on film! Be still my heart.

Winter White

Tacoma, WA // This morning I woke up to snow flurries swirling outside our window. Going to enjoy it while it’s still a novelty to me.

Stormy weather

Seattle, WA // Valentine’s Day. The day of the first storm since arriving in Washington. Space searching in Seattle with a Macrina mocha in between for a rainy Monday.
